Andries Engelbrecht is a full professor in Computer Science at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He obtained his M.Sc and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Stellenbosch in 1994 and 1999 respectively. Andries leads the Computational Intelligence Research Group at the University of Pretoria. This group consists of a number of academic staff members, PhD students and Masters students, doing research in Swarm Intelligence, Evolutionary Computation, Neural Networks, Artificial Immune Systems, Swarm Robotics, Image Processing, Bioinformatics and Data & and Text Mining.

Andries is also the author of Fundamentals of Computational Swarm Intelligence, Wiley & Sons, and authored / co-authored over 100 papers published in journals, conference proceedings and book chapters.

He is a member of the IEEE CIS, and a number of its task forces. He also serves as an associate-editor of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation.
